Things Colleges Need to Learn From Students — Tales from TEC
“College life isn’t just about marks, it’s about making memories that matter.”
Ever wondered what could truly make college life unforgettable?
Spoiler alert: It’s not the 75% attendance rule or 8 AM classes. It’s the little things that make students feel seen, heard, and human. As a student of TEC (Tirumala Engineering College), I've lived through the highs, the facepalms, and the hilarious moments in between. Here's my brutally honest, fun-filled take on what our college has done right—and what we wish it would do!
1. The Wi-Fi Olympics
Let’s start with a classic. TEC Wi-Fi deserves a gold medal… in hide and seek. It works best when you’re farthest from the classrooms—like near the main gate or, mysteriously, beside the campus dog.
Wish List Fix: A Wi-Fi booster in every classroom (and hostels too!). Students need data to study and stream cat videos for mental health reasons.
2. Canteen Chronicles
We do have a canteen, and yes, it sells samosas the size of your palm. But guess what? Post-lunch hunger hits harder than mid-sem exams.
Dream Fix: An all-day snack counter with unlimited fries, chai on tap, and may I suggest… Nutella sandwiches?
3. Attendance Woes
The 75% rule is not just a rule; it’s a lifestyle. We've mastered the art of Proxy 101.
Fix We Crave: Give us 2 ‘mental health’ leaves per month. Sometimes we just need a break. Plus, waive attendance for Mondays—we deserve recovery time after emotional Sunday breakdowns.
4. Morning Lecture = Crime Scene
Why are there classes at 8 AM? Are we training for the military or just learning circuits? Our brains aren't even awake!
Fix It, Please: Shift lectures to start from 10 AM. It’s scientifically proven that students perform better when well-rested (yes, we Googled it).
5. Where's My Chill Zone?
There are no nap zones, and yet, we see our dear security guards catching sweet naps under the trees.
Student Demand: Let’s have official nap pods. 15-minute power naps can improve focus. Plus, bean bags? A total vibe.
6. Fest FOMO
TEC does try with fests. But what if we made them bigger, bolder, and better? One celebrity visit in four years doesn’t cut it.
Our Dream: Monthly open mic nights, DJ parties, and a surprise celeb visit once a semester. Manifesting Allu Arjun, okay?
7. Real-Life Learning, Please?
Kudos to TEC for recently introducing internship tie-ups. But more hands-on workshops, real-world projects, and startup incubators could skyrocket our potential.
Let Students Teach Too: Some of us run YouTube channels, code apps, and build robots. Let us run sessions for juniors—it’ll inspire and empower.
Final Thoughts:
College isn’t a prison with deadlines. It should be a launchpad for dreams, friendships, and (sometimes) organized chaos. TEC is home, but with a sprinkle of imagination and student-friendly tweaks, it could be paradise.

From slow Wi-Fi to 8 AM misery, we’ve seen it all. But here’s what could make TEC the college of our dreams. Let’s reimagine college life — one snack, one nap, one laugh at a time.
